Golden Ratio Face Calculator

Upload a front-facing photo and see how your facial proportions compare with the golden ratio, measurement by measurement, with lines drawn on your photo.

  • Look straight at the camera with a relaxed, closed mouth.
  • Hold the phone at arm's length and at eye level: a close camera stretches the face.
  • Pull your hair back from your forehead so the hairline can be found.

Your photo is measured in your browser and is not uploaded for this result. Only use a photo of yourself, or one you have permission to use.

What is the golden ratio?

The golden ratio, often written as φ (phi), is about 1.618. Two lengths are in the golden ratio when the longer one divided by the shorter one equals 1.618. It appears in mathematics, in some patterns in nature, and in art and architecture, and it is often mentioned in discussions about facial beauty.

Which facial proportions we measure

Measurement Compared with
Face length ÷ face width 1.618
Mouth width ÷ nose width 1.618
Distance between pupils ÷ mouth width 1.618
Hairline to brows : brows to nose : nose to chin equal thirds
Eye width compared with the gap between the eyes about equal
Left side vs. right side of the face symmetry %

For each line you see your number, the reference value, and how far apart they are. The calculator never shows a pass or fail, only distances from reference values.

How to read your results

  • Being close to 1.618 is not the same as being attractive. Studies have found that the golden ratio alone does not predict which faces people prefer; averageness, symmetry, skin and expression all matter.
  • Every photo is slightly different. Camera distance and angle change proportions, so compare two or three photos.
  • Small differences are invisible in real life. A ratio of 1.55 versus 1.62 is a few millimeters.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate the golden ratio of my face?

Measure your face length (hairline to chin) and width (at the cheekbones), then divide length by width. A result near 1.618 matches the golden ratio. The calculator does this automatically from a photo, along with nine other measurements.

Is the golden ratio face calculator accurate?

The measurements are accurate for the photo you upload, but photos distort faces slightly depending on the lens and distance. Use a photo taken from arm's length or further, straight on, at eye level.

Is a golden ratio face more attractive?

Not necessarily. It is a popular idea, but research has not shown that matching 1.618 makes a face more attractive. Treat the results as interesting information, not a beauty score.

Is it free?

The three main ratios are free. The full set of measurements with the overlay on your photo uses 10 credits and also unlocks your full attractiveness test report.
